Artist's Comments

So, while I'm doing the whole chiffon thing, I figured I'd ask you all for your opinion. These sketches represent the basic ensemble for the Day of Wrong Blue Faerie ensemble, with several corset options.

The first sketch on the left is the original plan as far as the corset went. Just a basic pseudo Victorian affair with straps and a V-front lacing.

However, this all being mystical and Faerie, I got it into my head that drape-y ribbons might be needed, so I sketched out the other two as possible options. I am leaning towards the third, as I've got a large egyptian collar type neckpiece that was made to go with this ensemble, and the straps of the other two would get in the way.

Also, I've not yet decided what material I'm going to construct this out of. My original plan was a black cotton jacquard with a light floral pattern. But, then I got to thinking, if I do one of the more laced up corsets, I could probably go with a toned down pattern, but toned up fabric, like a black satin or something. Could also go with a dark silver, but I'm leaning towards black, just for a nice contrast.

If it helps y'all any, the base dress is a cobalt blue velvet, with a very subtle sparkle to it, and the overdress is a silver and purple cross weave chiffon. Most of the accessories are silver with blue and black accents.

hmmm the 3rd sounds the most desirable, without the straps and such... and I have no oppinion on colour...

The more you do it, the more you can do it, regardless of what it is.

Thanks for the opinion! I'm definitely leaning that way so as not to interfere with the necklace, and besides, straps are just such a hassle to bind.

aye, indeed ;)

I am not a fan of number two... I think it's the plung of the neckline and the height of the collar. Seems to drastically elongate the neck area.

The first is nice, and you could make it without straps there... but it looks average.

The double front lace on the third is less commonly seen in garb and is thus more attractive to the eye.

Good luck with your decision.

Excellent points all around. The second corset I've also been playing with in a scoop neck, but I just think that's way too much curve, between the scoop of the corset, the scoop of the base dress, and the curve of the double front lace option.

The third is looking like the best option, especially considering the necklace (you saw that one, right? the silver/blue/black chainmaille concoction Talyn made for me?), but I'm worried about it coming across a little too Mayfaire Moon. But with grommets instead of loops and a lack of a front busk, I should be okay on that point.

Suede? I like the middle best :D

I thought about suede. But given the fact that the two dresses underneath are velvet and chiffon, I'm thinking suede's a little too stark.

Plus the only black suede I have left is being saved for an underbust and I'm like, so hard pressed to find leather these days, without use of the internet.

Ah, okay. Where do you buy your leather from?

Lately, I'm getting leather EVERYWHERE. I used to buy partial hides at the better of two local fabric stores, but now that that's gone, it's been internet suppliers for me. Leather Unlimited is nice, and Just Leather isn't terrible, but I'm thinking of switching to Waterhouse Leather, because they've got a really great selection without having to resort to buying wholesale.

And a friend keeps giving me leather, so that's nice too.
